Join us for Kick-Off Sunday Sept. 9!

Kick-Off Sunday means we celebrate new members and take part in a BBQ lunch following worship on Sunday, Sept. 9. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun!

The Fellowship Team is hosting a lunch following worship to celebrate Kick Off Sunday. Grilled hot dogs (meat and veggie options), picnic side dishes, desserts and root beer floats will be served. There is no charge, but a “free will offering” is requested to offset expenses. Please consider making a small donation.

Break the Barriers will perform and the Syrian family our church is befriending hopes to attend.

Considering joining Community UCC?

If you want to learn more about becoming a member of our church, please join us at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, for an informational meeting. We officially receive new members four times a year:

  • During Kickoff Sunday, Sept. 9
  • First Sunday in Advent (winter)
  • Easter Sunday (spring)
  • Pentecost Sunday (summer)

New members may attend an informational class, usually a month before one of the four Sunday worship services to receive new members. The information class is organized by the Extravagant Welcome Team, or “elders.”

Even between those times, there are many ways you can become involved in the offerings of our church life.

Hanging of the Greens 2017

New members join our congregation at Community UCC

Many thanks, as always, to member Terry Cole for capturing these photos from Sunday’s Hanging of the Greens worship service, starting off this Advent season.

We also welcomed several new members to our growing congregation, shared in communion and learned about faiths around the world.

New church members join our congregation

Kick-Off Sunday is when Community UCC members come together to welcome new members, commission our Sunday School teachers, bless our confirmands and break bread together following worship. It was great to see our Sanctuary so full today for this vibrant day in the life of our church!

New to Community UCC? Start at our Welcome Table

Whether you found us on the web, heard about us from a friend or noticed us because you live in the neighborhood, we are happy to have you here.

A great place to start is our Welcome table inside the Narthex, right by where you enter the Church for worship. There, we can greet you, offer you a temporary name tag and answer any questions you might have.

You can also sign up to receive e-News, a weekly newsletter that we distribute via email. To subscribe, add your email address to the new member interest card.

This web page has information about our church’s history, which dates back to 1956.

If you want to start the process to become a new member, please contact our church office (by phone at 559.435.2690 or email at office@communityucc.com), and our administrative assistant, Marilyn, will connect you with someone who can help you learn more about our church or beginning the process to join.

We officially receive new members four times a year:

  • During Kickoff Sunday (fall)
  • First Sunday in Advent (winter)
  • Easter Sunday (spring)
  • Pentecost Sunday (summer)

New members attend an informational class, usually a month before one of the four Sunday worship services to receive new members.  The information class is organized by the Extravagant Welcome Team, or “elders,” which is currently organized by Donna Wright.

Even between those times, there are many ways you can become involved in the offerings of our church life.

As congregational members, we all have a part in inviting guests and friends to our Church. It is only by continuing to welcome and accept new members that we will keep our 60-plus year tradition leading the way into the future.

We hope we have embraced you in a welcoming way, and that you will find a church home at Community UCC, becoming a vibrant, engaged member of our congregation.

Inhale Grace. Exhale Gratitude.

Our Sanctuary was ablaze with red on June 4, both in the vivid decorations of the church and in the dress of our members.

We welcomed five new members to our congregation. We broke bread together during communion, and following the service, we gathered for the annual meeting, where church members approved the budget for the 2017-18 year, and approved two other motions.

May the energy and vibrancy of yesterday’s worship carry us into this next week and into our church congregation’s next year of church life.

Inhale Grace. Exhale Gratitude.
