Though our church is famous for its last-minute commitments, delayed decisions, and late arrivals, we are now at that LAST MINUTE MOMENT, real soon. August is upon us and we now have about three weeks to the deadline for sign-ups.
However, it is a very convenient procedure. Marilyn has copies of the Registration form, which can be picked up in person (in the office) or sent to you electronically. Registrations Forms are also on the electronic message board in the Narthex. Just return it with a check or credit card payment and you’re on the list. JOYFULLY JOINING JOURNEYS, our theme for this year’s camp, will be, well….. JOYFUL!!
It is a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other in new and different ways and to make new friends from our neighboring churches. You’ll will find peace, pleasure, fun, good food, and spiritual enrichment in this lovely place in the Tamarack forest– where the creek bubbles along nearby.
Please come to join us because this is an experience to join that you will not want to miss. SIGN up for the Labor Day weekend or just for the Saturday DAY to attend this GREAT experience that weekend. You will have this weekend to add to your memorable experiences of your lifetime. JOY and Houray!!

It’s time to get serious about Family Camp at Tamarack. We want YOU to come “Frolic in the Forest” during Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 2.
Get away from triple-digit heat, eat delicious food, sleep comfortably in your cozy tent on new cots, participate in a fun variety of activities like hiking, swimming, TNT skits, playing music, Morning Meadow-tations, Sunday worship, visiting, hanging out together and making new friends — but keeping the old.
There are bath houses with flush toilets and hot water showers. There is a lodge with a huge stone fireplace and a fire pit outside for s’mores and fellowship.
You won’t be disappointed. It’s a GREAT experience! One to remember.

Sign up for Camp Tamarack (Camp Tam). Youth camp is underway.
Camp Tam is truly one of God’s gifts to us. It is nestled at about 7,000 ft. and above Shaver Lake in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. Camp Tam offers our youth a safe haven to be themselves and learn about God through nature and small group settings. Many lifelong relationships happen at camp.
Many of pastors and church leaders have started their journey when attending camp. We have assembled an outstanding group of leaders for this summer and would love to see your youth at one of the camps.
Camp dates are:
- Counselor in Training camp – July 12 – 14: camp for counselor’s in training – must have graduated from high school
- Jr. Camp – July 15-21: Entering grades 3-6
- Jr. High – July 22-28: Entering grades 7-9
- Sr. High – July 29-Aug. 4: Entering grades 10-12
Applications are available in the church office or on the NCNC UCC website under youth and young adult. You can also contact Joy Davis (NCNC office), email@example.com; Michelle Krenz, firstname.lastname@example.org; or Jeannie Hobson, email@example.com
In addition, we are in need of counselors for all three camps so please think about volunteering. From personal experience, I can tell you what an incredible experience this is. You will receive more from those kids than you ever give.
The Perfect Balance of “Roughing It”
On Labor Day weekend, the Hayden family ventured out of the heat and stifling smog of late summer to the refreshing Camp Tamarack. Although the drive past Shaver Lake took less than an hour, we felt worlds away amidst the fragrant pines and babbling creek that surround the camp.
This was our first time taking our two little princesses to go camping. And Camp Tamarack proved to be a perfect balance of “roughing it” in the outdoors while having the necessary comforts like warm meals and running water.
Our girls (Tess 6 & Kate 3) found it to be a grand adventure! Mornings were cool enough to huddle around a crackling fire while afternoons offered warm blue skies. There were so many wonderful memories that we made throughout the weekend. Whether it was making new friends from The Big Red Church, enjoying home-cooked meals by our culinary genius, Jeff, or watching the gaggle or children sticky their fingers with gooey s`mores, family memories were aplenty.
And yet, I think my favorite moment of the weekend was our group devotion on Saturday morning. Jack and Annie Van Patten had a hat full or Bible verses that we chose from. After picking our slip of paper ,we meandered through the meadow and meditated on the verse. While any moment away from the cacophony of Disney Jr, YouTube Kids and sibling rivalry is unbridled bliss, this moment to ponder and probe and center in the beauty of God’s workmanship offered a special moment with the Master Craftsman. We then gathered together to share our thoughts on our verses.
Our discussion was insightful, authentic, uplifting and inspiring. And perhaps, those are the best words to describe the entirety of our experience at Camp Tamarack.
